Fu Youde went to Shandong University starting from 1978 and received his PhD at Beijing University, China in 1999. He studied and worked as a student or visiting academic in various universities in Europe, Israel, the U.S., Canada, and Australia. He was promoted to associate professor in 1988 and full professor in 1994, and is now the director of the Center for Judaic and Inter-Religious Studies of Shandong University, one of the Key Research Institutes of Humanities and Social Sciences in P.R. China, Chairman of the Department of Religious Studies, and a member of the Academic Commission of Shandong University.

His main research interests include Jewish religion and thought, comparative religion and philosophy, and history of western philosophy. He has published a series of books, translations, and over 50 articles.

Other Academic activities on Jewish Studies:

  • Created the specialty of Religious Studies at SDU in 2000 and have trained 60 undergraduates
  • Created the Master Program of Jewish studies since 1999 and have trained 20 graduated students
  • Created the Doctoral Program of Religious Studies since 2003 and have trained 12 graduate students
  • Created the Journal of Jewish Studies in 2002 and have published 9 Volumes since then
  • Created the research Institute of Jewish studies in 1994 and enlarged it into the current Center for Judaic and Inter-Religious Studies in 2003 and in 2004 made it became one of the 100 Key Research Institutes of Humanities and Social Sciences of China, sponsored and guided by the Ministry of Education of China, one of the three on religions.
  • Organized over 10 International and National conferences since 1998.
  • Organized 3 summer schools of Judaism in 2005, 2007 and 2009.
